Australian pines are a category one invasive species. They emit a chemical preventing other plants from growing under them. They have a shallow root system and can overturn in high winds. Even so, we do enjoy their shade at Siesta and Lido beaches. Not even a true pine. A-pines are actually angiosperms (flowering trees).
